Headlong

The year is 5343 but Christmas street decorations are still those big bulbs made up of lots of little white lights, that turn up in high streets looking slightly tattier every year. Also, there's Christmas tree bulbs instead of planets in the opening credits NOW LET US NEVER SPEAK OF THIS AGAIN.

Well I say "spoilers after the cut," this episode was so firmly in the "romp" category that to say there was a lot of running around and mugging is both to spoiler the whole story and to give absolutely nothing away. It's a lot of fun, although it does go a bit maudlin at the end, as The Moff has a tendency to with his Christmas episodes. Alex Kingston is as good as ever as River Song - not letting the sadness in the character stop her from being fun - Greg Davies is apt casting as a shouty head on a giant body, Matt Lucas' comic relief isn't overdone, Phillip Rhys remains not terrible to look at, and Chris Lew Kum Hoi turns up, but too briefly to do an uncanny impression of a grizzling baby, so that's a bit of a waste. Plus, with the new Star Wars film out, there's a little timely mention of the fact that a parsec is a unit of distance, not time. Overall fun, but not that memorable an episode - I didn't blog about it straight away and needed to watch it again because I'd forgotten most of it.
